CHOKWE people are from the Democratic republic of Congo /Angola / Zambia

“Comics” is a series made up of 18 canvases* representing masks and statues of African cultural heritage. The very expressive objects made in portrait are expressed here like comic book characters but in a “language of detention”.

Each canvas is designed as a comic book thumbnail and the characters from different African cultures** interact with each other.

In the continuity of "RESTITUTION ... PLEASE WAIT", this "COMICS" series extends in an offbeat tone, the fascination of these iconic figures and the questioning of the return of works to African soil.
